slightly OT, but is it the crystal that makes all the difference, or something else Im missing.

im not a programmer or anything, but Im wondering if there is something else we can add on by soldering or such to help gain a new source of supply

i sent in one a few days ago for mod service it was also X811616-006

It's the entire layout of the PCB.  The crystal location just helps determine compatibility because it isn't located in the same spot on any two controller revisions.

I just got a X811616-006 from Target, crystal and everything are in the right place.

I also found a  X811616-006 at best buy it was the correct tygon numbered board.

I was wondering if the controller below is compatible with XIM2. It's barcode number was X811616-006. It appears to have the same layout as the example 005 series controller, however it obviously has a different serial number stamped on the crystal.

I baught a X811616-006 from the XIM ebay store. And it obviously works.
